Navigating the stunning Swiss village of Grindelwald is primarily a mix of walking and utilizing an incredibly efficient public transit network. Within the village center, most shops, restaurants, and hotels are easily accessible on foot, though the terrain can be quite steep. For longer distances or to reach higher elevations, the Grindelwald Bus system is the backbone of local travel, with various lines connecting the train station to residential areas and trailheads. If you hold a "Jungfrau Travel Pass" or a "Berner Oberland Pass," many of these local buses are included. For mountain excursions, the Grindelwald First cable car and the Eiger Express (a state-of-the-art tricable gondola) provide rapid access to the peaks. Additionally, the Wengernalpbahn cogwheel railway connects Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg and Wengen. While private cars are allowed in the village (unlike car-free Zermatt), parking is limited and expensive, making the train and bus the preferred choice for most visitors.
