Peak and off-peak times
- Peak fares - Monday to Friday (not on public holidays) between 06:30 and 09:30, and between 16:00 and 19:00.
- Off-peak fares - at all other times and if you travel from a station outside Zone 1 to a station in Zone 1 between 16:00 and 19:00, Monday to Friday.
You can book your Off-Peak tickets at any time, but you must travel during the middle of the day, in the evenings or at any time on weekends, avoiding the morning and late-afternoon rush hour.

Off-peak tickets are cheaper than anytime tickets – an off-peak return is usually only slightly more than an anytime single, but as the name implies, cannot be used during weekday peak periods.

Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets do not require you to travel on a specific train, only at certain times. So, if your outward travel date remains the same you might not need to pay an additional fare. Off-Peak Day tickets and the outward part of Off-Peak tickets are only valid on the date shown on the ticket.

In general, off-peak hours are all hours outside of 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Various energy pricing plans can have “super off-peak” time periods that offer even lower prices. Peak hours: Hours of the day that have high energy demand resulting in higher prices. Peak hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. everyday.

Missed Tap Off Cost If you don't have a default set on your card and you forget to tap off at the end of your trip, you'll be charged the fare to the last stop on the train line or bus route and with your fare type and any applicable loyalty discounts applied.

If the time between touching in at the start and touching out at the end of your journey is more than the maximum journey time limit, you'll be charged two maximum pay as you go fares. A single maximum fare is: up to £9.40 in Zones 1-9. up to £26.00 beyond Zone 9, including on the Heathrow Express.
