How far is Pisa and Florence?

The distance from Florence to Pisa is 42 miles. Some high-speed trains make this journey in just 49 minutes. Ticket prices on this route average $10.

The distance between Pisa and Florence is approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles). Because they are so close, they are frequently visited together in a single trip. The most popular way to travel between the two is by train, which takes about 60 to 90 minutes depending on whether you take a "Regionale" or "Regionale Veloce" service. Trains run very frequently, often every 20-30 minutes, and the journey is affordable, usually costing less than 10 euros. If you are driving, the trip via the SGC Firenze-Pisa-Livorno (FI-PI-LI) highway takes roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes, though traffic entering Florence can be quite heavy. For tourists, the train is generally the better option because both city centers are "ZTL" (Limited Traffic Zones), meaning driving into the historic areas can result in heavy fines. Many people stay in Florence and take a half-day trip to Pisa specifically to see the Leaning Tower and the Piazza dei Miracoli, as the train station (Pisa Centrale) is a pleasant 20-minute walk or a short bus ride from the main monuments.
