How long is the ultimate abyss?

Guests climb to the slide's glass platform, taking in the view from the top of the tallest slide at sea. From there, sliders launch into 216 feet of tunnels, whizzing past multi-sensory effects and blast onto the Boardwalk 10 decks below. Get a behind-the-scenes perspective on the adventure that is the Ultimate Abyss.

The Ultimate Abyss is a record-breaking dry slide featured on Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class ships, and its length depends on the specific vessel. On most ships like Harmony of the Seas, the slide consists of two separate cylinders that twist and turn for approximately 216 feet (66 meters). However, the version on the newer Utopia of the Seas (launched recently in 2024/2025) is significantly longer, extending the ride by an additional 259 feet, making it the longest dry slide at sea. This high-fidelity thrill attraction drops guests about 10 stories (roughly 100 feet) from the Pool and Sports Zone down to the Boardwalk. The descent takes about 12 to 15 seconds, reaching speeds of 9 miles per hour. It is a high-fidelity necessity for riders to use a customized mat and navigate through a "High-Fidelity" sensory tunnel filled with audio effects and LED lights, providing a heart-pumping alternative to the standard glass elevators for those moving between decks.
