How many AA miles can you buy a year?

You can buy up to a maximum of 150,000 miles. AAdvantage accounts must have at least one mile and be older than 30 days to purchase miles. Purchased miles are non-refundable and non-reversible.

In the 2026 AAdvantage program, the maximum number of miles a single member can purchase or receive as a gift in a calendar year is 150,000. This limit applies to "base miles" and does not include any "bonus miles" offered during promotional sales, which can often push the total amount you receive significantly higher—sometimes doubling it. It is important to note that purchased miles do not count toward Loyalty Points or elite status (such as Gold, Platinum, or Executive Platinum) unless specifically stated in a special promotion. For 2026, American Airlines has also introduced more ways to "use" these miles, including redemptions for major events like the PGA Championship. While buying miles is a convenient way to "top up" for a specific award flight, the cost is often higher than the value of the miles themselves, so it is best reserved for those who are just a few thousand miles short of a dream redemption.
