How many trains should each person have in ticket to ride?

Each player takes a set of 45 Colored Train Cars along with its matching Scoring Marker. Each player places his Scoring Marker on Start ?on the Scoring Track running along the map's border. Throughout the game, each time a player scores points, he will advance his marker accordingly.

The longest route includes all the red trains (50 trains) and does not include all the blue trains of the smaller routes branching off. Generally, if you're traveling on one route multiple times in a day, an all-day ticket may be cheaper than buying two separate tickets, depending on the distance. However, if you're traveling on multiple routes on the same day, two single tickets may be the better option.

Some routes – those that are Gray colored – can be claimed using a set of cards of any one color. When a route is claimed, the player places one of his plastic trains in each of the spaces of the route. All the cards in the set used to claim the route are then discarded. A player may claim any open route on the board.

The dispatchers will send one train or the other to a siding to wait until a train from the other direction, or a faster train coming up from behind, passes. If there are frequent delays due to single-tracking, railroads (or transit systems) will sometimes bite the bullet and lay a second track.
