How to get to West Bay Beach from port?

West Bay Beach is approximately a 30-45 minute taxi ride from either the Coxen Hole or Mahogany Bay Cruise Ship piers. You can take a taxi, however we decided to take the local mini bus from Coxen Hole to West End and water taxi from West End to West Bay Beach.

Excellent question! Getting from the cruise port to West Bay Beach is straightforward, and you have several good options depending on your budget and preference for adventure vs. convenience.

First, it’s important to know which port you’re arriving at, as there are two main ones in Roatan:

  1. Mahogany Bay (Carnival Corporation & Disney ships): This is a private port in Dixon Cove, near Coxen Hole.
  2. Port of Roatan / Coxen Hole (Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC, others): This is the main public port in the town of Coxen Hole.

The route and travel time are slightly different for each.

Option 1: Taxi (Easiest & Most Direct)

This is the most hassle-free door-to-door method. From Mahogany Bay: Taxis are readily available outside the port gate. The ride to West Bay takes about 20-25 minutes. From Coxen Hole: Taxis are right at the pier. The ride is slightly shorter, about 15-20 minutes. Cost: $20 - $25 USD per person (one-way) for cruise passengers is the standard rate. Always confirm the price per person and the total before getting in. Taxis are usually vans that can fit multiple groups. Tip: Agree on a pickup time and location for your return trip with your driver.

Option 2: Pre-Booked Excursion or Day Pass (Most Comprehensive)

Many cruise lines offer excursions to Tabyana Beach (which is located on West Bay Beach) or
