Is alcohol allowed in Toronto Island?

Alcohol may not be consumed anywhere on the Toronto Islands except in licensed establishments. Toronto bylaw enforcement officers regularly patrol the island looking for violations. Additionally, picnic permits have additional restrictions: No amplified music or microphones (so don't bring your Bluetooth speakers)

As of early 2026, personal alcohol consumption is only allowed in designated "Alcohol in Parks" zones in Toronto, and currently, the Toronto Islands are not part of the permanent "Alcohol in Parks" program. While the city has expanded the pilot to over 50 parks, the waterfront and island parks were excluded due to safety concerns regarding water proximity and the high volume of families. You can, however, legally consume alcohol at licensed restaurants and patios on the islands, such as the Island Café or the Rectory Café. If you are caught with open liquor in the public park or beach areas, you may face a fine from a park ranger or police officer. Always check the official City of Toronto "Alcohol in Parks" map for the most current updates, as new locations are added based on local council votes throughout the year.
