Since you're meant to get lost and explore this park- that's how the Imagineers imagined it- you'll probably do the most backtracking and walking here. It's easy to explore and wander around Animal Kingdom, adding to your mile count.

Objectively, the best days to visit Animal Kingdom are weekdays. Across the board, average daily wait times are lower Monday through Friday than they are Saturday or Sunday.
The worst day of the week to visit has historically been Monday! Perhaps it's because people expect the weekends to be the busiest, so they go with a weekday instead. Nonetheless, Monday wait times might be a bit higher than you'd want.
When it comes to mornings at Animal Kingdom, the park can be broken into two parts—Pandora and everything else. If you have Early Entry, you have a good opportunity to get through the two rides in Pandora—Avatar Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Journey—which are (more or less) the two most popular rides in the park.

Of course it's worth it, it is a wonderful Park for little ones ( everyone really, it is our favourite Park :) Animal Kingdom is made for a 4 year old! In addition to the Safari & Boneyard, be sure to take the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch, see the Lion King & if time permits Finding Nemo the Musical.
Animal Kingdom is a great “chill” park. While it has some fantastic rides (Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest are two of the best rides at Disney World) the bulk of the enjoyment of the park comes in between the rides.
Of all the Walt Disney World parks to visit at night, I would highly recommend taking the time to spend a few hours at Animal Kingdom after dark. This park is a totally different place at night, and has such a different feel than during the day. It's definitely worth exploring after dark!
Animal KingdomThe longest wait there (on average) was Flight of Passage at 102 minutes. Na'vi River Journey followed with 64 minutes, and Kilimanjaro Safaris was next at 58 minutes.
TIP: The best times to ride the Safari is first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon. The animals are often more active during both of these times. This is a wonderful opportunity to see herds of free-roaming animals in a “natural habitat”.
