Is Animal Kingdom good for a rainy day?

There is plenty of fun to be had at Animal Kingdom in the rain?and the more rain, the fewer people! The next time you're caught in the rain at Animal Kingdom, try some of my favorite rainy-day attractions. Just make sure you pack (or buy) your rain poncho!

Disney's Animal Kingdom is surprisingly well-equipped for a rainy day, offering a blend of indoor attractions and animal behaviors that are enhanced by wet weather. Many major thrill rides and shows, such as DINOSAUR, Avatar Flight of Passage, Na'vi River Journey, and the Festival of the Lion King, are entirely indoors or covered. A unique pro-tip for rainy days is to head to Kilimanjaro Safaris; unlike humans, many animals (such as rhinos and elephants) become more active and playful in the rain, and the safari vehicles are roofed to keep guests dry. Furthermore, the Conservation Station at Rafiki's Planet Watch offers extensive indoor exhibits and the "Animation Experience." While the park's lush foliage can feel humid, the "covered" pavilions at Flame Tree BBQ and the indoor seating at Nomad Lounge provide excellent refuge, making it a viable park choice provided there is no lightning nearby.

Everything is more spread out, so you'd be caught longer in the rain. Based on the usual summer forecast, we'd recommend a plan that includes visiting Animal Kingdom in the morning and EPCOT in the afternoon. Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios each have a fair amount of indoor attractions.

Because live animals are such a large focus of so many of the attractions at this park, visiting in the morning is crucial. While Disney has found ways to extend the fun into the afternoon and evening hours, most of the animals viewed here are far more active, and therefore visible, in the morning.

Disney's official policy is that it does not offer refunds for rain. What is this? The show must go on, and even when it is rainy, Disney World is open. Now, of course if Disney does happen to close for a weather event (like a hurricane) they will issue refunds then.

Many guests consider DINOSAUR to be the scariest ride in the park, and I'm one of them. This ride is very dark, very loud, very rough and jerky, and many of the audio-animatronics, including the hangry Carnotaurus, are legit scary.

Some Guests feel that Disney's Animal Kingdom park is a half-day park. But you and I know that those naysayers are incorrect! With so much to do and see throughout the park, my family and I always plan to spend an entire day at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It also happens to be our favorite of the four Theme Parks.

Some parks are better to visit on rainy days than others. At EPCOT, the only attraction that would close due to weather is Test Track. Most of the other rides — along with plenty of restaurants and shops — are located in Future World and are relatively close together so you wouldn't have to walk far in the rain.
