Is Avios membership free?

It's free to join. You can collect Avios to help pay for upgrades on your next holiday. A bit like a holiday fund. Once you have joined, create a Household Account and combine your Avios with others, including your children to get rewards faster.

Joining the Avios ecosystem is entirely free of charge. You can become a member by signing up for a loyalty program that uses Avios as its currency, such as the British Airways Executive Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, or Iberia Plus. There are no joining fees or ongoing subscription costs to maintain your account. In 2026, members can accumulate Avios through a vast array of "non-flying" activities, including taking surveys via "Avios For Thoughts," shopping through online portals, or converting credit card reward points from partners like Amex, Chase, or HSBC. New members often receive "welcome bonuses"—for example, Qatar Airways has offered up to 4,000 bonus Avios for joining with a specific code and taking a first flight. While the membership itself costs nothing, it provides significant value by allowing travelers to redeem points for "Reward Flights," cabin upgrades, and hotel stays, with the only out-of-pocket costs being the associated taxes and carrier fees.
