Is Disneyland worth it in the rain?

Visiting Disneyland in the rain is one of the best decisions you can make to have a less crowded day in the park. On one of the best days we ever had at Disneyland, it rained in the morning and then got sunny in the afternoon. When it rains at Disneyland, the crowds tend to be low…and that's just how I like them!

Visiting Disneyland in the rain is widely considered a "pro-tip" for 2026 because it often results in the lowest crowds and shortest wait times of the year. Since many guests are locals who live in Southern California, they tend to stay home when the weather turns, leaving the park surprisingly empty. Most major attractions—such as Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Indiana Jones Adventure—are located entirely indoors, meaning you can stay dry while enjoying the "gold standard" thrills. Furthermore, indoor theaters like the Enchanted Tiki Room and Great Moments with Lincoln provide perfect long-duration escapes from heavy downpours. While some outdoor flat rides like the Mad Tea Party or Alice in Wonderland may close for safety, the "trade-off" of walking onto Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance with a 20-minute wait is often worth the damp socks. To make it "worth it," you must come prepared with a high-quality poncho, waterproof footwear, and a "go-with-the-flow" attitude, taking advantage of the unique photo opportunities and the cozy atmosphere of a rain-slicked Main Street, U.S.A.

Slinky Dog Dash is in Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Since it's an outdoor attraction, it shuts down in heavy rain and if there's severe weather or lightning in the area. Much of the queue is exposed to the elements, and even the portion of the queue that's covered isn't enclosed. And it can get HOT.

You won't see princesses around the Disneyland entrance or Goofy ambling down the street in the rain. While the pre-planned character meet-and-greets will still be happening, don't plan on seeing characters just walking around. It does take away a little of the magic (probably mostly for ME!)
