Is Everest at Animal Kingdom scary?

A Word of Warning Some parts of Expedition Everest ? Legend of the Forbidden Mountain may be scary for children. This attraction features loud noises, fast drops, high speeds, dark places and frightening creature effects.

Expedition Everest is considered a "high-thrill" coaster, but whether it's "scary" depends on your tolerance for unique physical sensations. It features an 80-foot drop and speeds up to 50 mph, but its most intense element is a long backwards segment in the dark that creates a disorienting "pull" feeling similar to an inversion. While it does not go upside down, the physical force in the dark can be overwhelming for some. The "scare factor" is also psychological; the 200-foot mountain looming over the park and the encounter with the "Broken Track" and the Yeti animatronic add significant tension. However, many riders find it smoother than Space Mountain. If you enjoy moderate thrills but dislike big vertical drops, be warned that the main drop is "slanted" and fast, but for 2026 thrill-seekers, it is widely ranked as the best-themed coaster in Disney World.
