According to the latest report by GlobalData, 'Tourism Destination Market Insight: Western Europe (2022)', France held the title of most visited country in the world prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, welcoming 88.1 million visitors in 2019. However, it was overtaken by Spain in 2021.
France's scenery is as diverse as it is beautiful, with the glittering coastlines of the French Riviera, the patchwork fields of the Loire Valley, the snow-capped Alps and centuries old harbor towns of Normandy. This, of course, is hugely appealing for lovers of the great outdoors.
According to the National Travel and Tourism Office at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Mexico and Canada were by far the most popular destinations for U.S. resident travelers in 2019. While 39.3 million U.S. residents visited Mexico in one year, 15 million made a trip to Canada.
And the world's most unfriendly country, according to the data? Bolivia took the dubious honor, scoring a 4.1 out of seven on a scale of “very unwelcome” (0) to “very welcome” (7). Venezuela and the Russian Federation were next.
