Is Gare du Nord safe in the day?

It was okay during the day, but after dark, especially after 9pm, you might feel a little uncomfortable. I stayed with my family at the Gare du Nord in October 2014 when I was visiting Paris. The area is populated with immigrants and is generally a lower income neighborhood, from what I could tell.
