Is Harry Potter Forbidden Journey scary?

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is just over four minutes long. Is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey a scary ride? Featuring Dementors, a fire-breathing dragon, and giant, animatronic spiders, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey may be a bit scary for people who don't like being spooked.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is considered "moderately scary," primarily due to its dark atmosphere and intense animatronics rather than high speeds or drops. The ride utilizes a unique robotic arm system that tilts and jerks you aggressively, which can be disorienting. The "scary" elements include large, realistic animatronic spiders (Aragog’s children) that spit water, a massive fire-breathing dragon, and a very intense sequence with Dementors that "suck the soul" out of you using projection effects and physical figures that get very close to the ride vehicle. For younger children or those with a fear of spiders or the dark, it can be quite frightening. Additionally, the ride is a major trigger for motion sickness because it combines physical motion with large wrap-around screens. If you are comfortable with dark rides like Pirates of the Caribbean but want something more "visceral," you will likely enjoy it; however, if you have a phobia of spiders or get dizzy easily, you may want to skip this one or close your eyes during the Forbidden Forest scene.
