Is it safe to leave luggage in car in Honolulu?

It is a crime of opportunity. Thugs are looking for things to pawn. They really don't want your luggage. We warn visitors because they may be likely to hop out of a car for just a second to look at something, leave valuables within sight in the car and be gone longer than expected.

Waikiki is walkable. Check your distances tho. Not sure where you are staying in Waikiki, but if you were to walk from the Hilton Hawaiian Village to Diamond Head, you are looking at an hour or so (and that is to the entrance, not the top). Definitely doable (with the added caveat that you are healthy to do that).

But, keep your wits about you and you should be just fine. The sidewalks will usually be full of people all the way down there until you get very close to your hotel.
