Is Matterhorn cable car included in Swiss travel pass?

Broadly, there are two types of tickets available to access Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. One is a full fare ticket, and another one is a discounted fare ticket with Swiss Travel Pass. A Swiss Travel Pass holder can purchase tickets at nearly half the rate.

In 2026, the Matterhorn cable cars—specifically the journey to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (Klein Matterhorn)—are not fully included in the Swiss Travel Pass. Instead, pass holders receive a 50% discount on the round-trip ticket from Zermatt to the summit. The Swiss Travel Pass does cover the train journey all the way into Zermatt, but the mountain railways and cable cars (which also include the Gornergrat cogwheel train and the Sunnegga funicular) require this half-fare supplement. For families, the "Swiss Family Card" (available for free with the pass) is a huge benefit, as it allows children under 16 to travel for free on these expensive cable cars when accompanied by a parent with a valid pass. If you plan to do multiple peaks in Zermatt, you might consider the "Peak Pass," though the 50% discount with the Swiss Travel Pass remains the most popular way for tourists to see Europe's highest cable car station at 3,883 meters without paying the full "full-fare" price of roughly 100-120 CHF.

The majority of gondolas, funiculars, and mountain trains are not part of the Swiss public transport network (and thus not included with the Swiss Travel Pass). However, to make things yet a bit more confusing, there are a couple of exceptions here too. You can find more info below, but first – how much does it cost.
