Is Nara closer to Osaka or Kyoto reddit?

Nara is basically the same distance from Kyoto / Osaka. So I would drop going to Kobe and go to Nara from Osaka as a day trip.

According to the consensus on Reddit's travel communities, Nara is almost equidistant from both Osaka and Kyoto, making it a perfect day trip from either city. However, when you look at the specific logistics, it is slightly "closer" to Osaka in terms of time and frequency of direct trains. If you take the Kintetsu Railway from Osaka-Namba, you can reach Kintetsu-Nara Station in about 35–40 minutes via the "Rapid Express" train. From Kyoto Station, the JR Miyakoji Rapid takes about 45 minutes, and the Kintetsu Limited Express takes around 35 minutes but at a higher cost. Most Reddit users suggest that if you are staying near the Namba or Shinsaibashi areas in Osaka, the commute feels faster and more direct. Conversely, if you are staying in central Kyoto, the trip is equally manageable. The general advice is to pick your "base" city based on your overall itinerary rather than the distance to Nara, as the 10-minute difference is negligible for most travelers. Both cities provide easy, well-marked rail links that drop you within walking distance of Nara Park.
