Is the Riomaggiore Manarola trail closed?

Status: CLOSED due to a landslide. Reopening scheduled for July 2024. Please use the alternative route Manarola - Riomaggiore (Via Beccara).

As of February 2026, the famous Via dell’Amore (Path of Love) connecting Riomaggiore and Manarola is officially open to the public. This iconic trail was closed for over 12 years following a major landslide in 2012 that caused significant structural damage. After a massive restoration project costing over €13 million, which included the installation of safety nets and extensive rock reinforcement, the trail fully reopened in August 2024. To manage the high volume of tourists, access now requires a reservation and a specific fee (or a Cinque Terre Card with a supplement). The walk is roughly 950 meters (0.6 miles) long and takes about 20 minutes to complete. It remains the most accessible and popular path in the Cinque Terre due to its flat, paved surface and stunning cliffside views, making its 2024 reopening one of the biggest milestones for the region's tourism in a decade.
