In 2026, the primary way to reach the Jungfraujoch (Top of Europe) involves a combination of a modern cable car and a traditional cogwheel train. While there is no single cable car that takes you all the way to the 3,454-meter summit, the Eiger Express tricable gondola is a massive part of the journey. Launched as part of the V-Cableway project, it transports guests from the Grindelwald Terminal to the Eigergletscher station in just 15 minutes. From there, you must transfer to the final leg of the Jungfrau Railway, which travels through a tunnel inside the Eiger and Mönch mountains to reach the highest railway station in Europe. This hybrid system has significantly reduced travel time compared to the older route, which relied solely on trains from the valley floor. The Eiger Express offers stunning views of the North Face of the Eiger and provides a much faster and more efficient ascent for the thousands of tourists who visit this UNESCO World Heritage site annually in the Bernese Oberland.
