The Delta SkyMiles Loyalty Program has four elite status tiers: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond — the latter is the highest. (There's also one secret tier above Diamond called Delta 360°, but membership is by invitation only.)
Diamond Medallion is the highest frequent flyer tier in the Delta SkyMiles program, above Platinum, Gold, and Silver. Requiring the most amount of money spent and the most amount of miles flown for Delta elite status, the benefits are plentiful and very beneficial.

So Delta's highest public loyalty tier is in the neighborhood of only . 02% of their flyers. But by flying at least an order of magnitude more than everybody else, we use up 2-3% of their seat miles. So on any given plane you'd expect an average of 0-9 Diamonds, to a first approximation.
If you are a frequent Delta flyer — especially someone who values upgrades, bonus miles and free checked bags — reaching Platinum Medallion is quite rewarding given its value estimated at over $6,000.

Diamond Medallion is the highest level of Delta Air Lines status available and therefore grants the most generous benefits. Diamond Medallions receive the highest complimentary upgrade priority, with upgrades clearing up to five days before departure and complimentary Clear membership.
Further, you can spend $25,000 on either the Delta Platinum or Delta Reserve cards to earn an MQD waiver for Silver, Gold and Platinum status. Or, you can spend $250,000 for a Diamond MQD waiver. This completely waives the MQD requirement, meaning you only need to meet the MQS or MQM requirement to earn status.
Regional Upgrade Certificates, available for Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members, offer upgrades on the same routes as Medallion Complimentary Upgrades, including all flights with First Class, the domestic Delta Premium Select experience and the domestic Delta One experience.
How long does Delta status last? Delta elite status lasts from the day you earn it through the next calendar year and until the following January 31. For example, if you earn Medallion status on October 3, 2023, you would have status through January 31, 2025.
You can access Delta lounges with a paid Delta Sky Club? membership, with Delta elite status or if you're flying in a premium cabin with Delta or an eligible partner airline (in certain situations).
