Is there a quiet carriage on Eurostar?

Eurostar is introducing a new quiet coach facility across all its trains for travel from September.

People Also Ask

Eurostar trains are quite loud. I'm not sure how you could hear either engine sat in a carriage in the middle of the train though. I'm surprised you could hear anything but the chatter of fellow passengers and the sound of the air being displaced as you picked up speed. It's not like you are riding behind a Deltic.

If you're travelling in a quiet carriage, please: Put your mobile phone on silent. Move into an adjoining carriage to have a conversation with a fellow passenger or on the phone. Use headphones with mobile devices and keep the volume low so it can't be heard by others.

Unless your trip is on Acela, seating in the Quiet Car is on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved.

The Eurostar runs at ground level so most people don't suffer from any issues at all.

The Eurostar does not feel fast while you are riding on it. It is a very quiet and smooth train and you'll have trouble figuring out how fast you are going without looking at a speedometer. Even though you'll be travelling at around 100mph through the tunnel and 160mph outside of the tunnel, it won't feel that fast.

This should give you your own family space anyway. But don't leave it to the last minute. As others have said, Standard on the Eurostar is quite comfortable. I wouldn't pay more for Premier, although from time to time there are specials which make Premier fares less expensive than Standard.

On Eurostar there's no weight limit for your luggage, but you must be able to carry and lift your bags safely on your own, as there is no porter service at the station and our teams are unfortunately unable to help with luggage. Each bag can be up to 85cm long at its widest point and should be clearly labelled.

Eurostar passengers require a valid passport or identity card. You will pass through UK, French, Dutch or Belgian customs depending on the journey you are undertaking.

The cars board specially crafted train cars, then the train leaves, enters the tunnel and exits on the other side, where cars roll off. It is a short passage: 35 minutes only. It is not more claustrophobic than taking a metro ride. But of course, if you suffer from claustrophobia, it may be a difficult experience.
