Is Upper Class worth it on Virgin Atlantic?

I had a decent flight on Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class. While their business class is pretty good, in some areas it lags behind rivals. The herringbone seat is narrow and lacks privacy, the amenity kit bag was cheap and the alcohol selection wasn't the best.

Whether Virgin Atlantic’s "Upper Class" is worth it in 2026 depends heavily on the aircraft type and your priority for the "ground experience." On the newer Airbus A350 and A330neo, the product is world-class, featuring private suites with sliding doors, large 18.5-inch touchscreens, and a "social space" like The Loft or the Booth where you can dine with a companion. However, the older Boeing 787s still feature a cramped "herringbone" layout where seats face the aisle rather than the window. The true value often lies in the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, which remains one of the best lounge experiences in aviation, offering à la carte dining, cocktails, and even pool tables. For overnight flights from the US to London, the lie-flat bed and "dine-on-demand" service provide significant restorative value compared to Premium Economy. If you can book the newer "A330neo" or "A350" airframes, the upgrade is widely considered worth the premium; but for the older 787 fleet, travelers might find better value in a competitive "Club World" seat on British Airways or a newer Delta One suite.
