Should I stay in Brienz or Interlaken?

Brienz is a nicer place to stay than Interlaken, but if you are particularly interested in Murren and around then it would be better to stay in Muerren (or Wengen or Grindelwald). Thousands of visitors go there every year on the trains (as well as cable car in the case of Muerren) without getting lost.

Luzern is more comfortable, old money and beautiful setting on the lake. Interlaken is closer to the big mountains, hiking, etc. I prefer Interlaken, but Luzern is more comfortable for first time to Switzerland. I would not want to spend 4 hours on the train to commute from one to the other however.
