Many of the Loungefly backpacks and bags are of a similar shape, but plenty have unique designs to fit the character they are designed after. This is much more expensive for a company to produce as they'll need to create new patterns for each release.
I've worn both. I wear fanny packs/bumbags as sling bags - they will usually have you remove a fanny pack if it's actually around your waist, for a ride (they'll have you remove a backpack as well, or any bag that is between you and a lap bar). It's really not inconvenience though.
