Four hours is the time, I've found, that a family can spend together in a theme park before fatigue (physical or emotional) sets in. At the four-hour mark, it's time to get out, go someplace else, and either call it a day, or chill for at least six hours before returning to the park.

The key for any amusement park outfit is COMFORT and LAYERING. The parks open early, so you'll want something warmer in the morning (unless you're going in the dead of summer), easy layers you can shed in the afternoon as it warms up, and layers you can add back on as it cools down at night.

Wear a fanny pack or use a VERY secure pocket that zips closed. The coasters are intense. A cross body bag would make it very difficult to secure the harnesses on the rides. Plus it would likely fly up and smack you in the face.

Do not eat a full meal or drink a sugary beverage minutes before hopping on a ride! On the flip side, you don't want to get on a big roller coaster with an empty stomach as that may make you feel even worse. Snack on something fairly bland about 30 minutes to an hour before hopping in line.
