What are standby lines at Disney World?

Standby Queue: This is the traditional queue or line quests wait in for attractions. All guests have access to the standby line during theme park operating hours. Virtual Queue: Occasionally, a virtual queue may be used for select attractions or experiences.

Each guest who buys Disney Genie+ service can bypass the standby line at select attractions on the day of their purchase using the Lightning Lane entrance. Lightning Lane is simply the name for the line you use to skip standby!

The Lightning Lane will generally be a much shorter wait than the regular line, but it merges with the regular line usually a few minutes before you board the ride. This means a wait of around 5 to 10 minutes is very common, even with Lightning Lanes.

If Rise of the Resistance is a must-do for you and you are trying to make the most of your day in the park, spending some extra cash for a Lightning Lane might be the way to go. Those who are staying at Disney World hotels have early entry and can hop in line as soon as the park opens for them.

The ratio we are supposed to work off normally is 4:1. 4 lightning lane for every 1 standby guest. Obviously you don't just send 4 lightning lane and then 1 standby guests but you send larger groups in multiples of that ratio.

The Genie 120-minute rule says that you can make a new reservation at most 2 hours from when you made the last one, and this countdown timer doesn't change if you modify the reservation. If you made it at, say, 11 a.m., then your two hours will be up at 1 p.m. even if you modify the reservation at noon.
