What are the disadvantages of DLR?

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in London is highly efficient, but it has several distinct disadvantages for commuters and tourists. Most notably, because the trains are completely driverless, there is no staff member on board to assist with immediate passenger queries or to intervene manually in the event of a minor mechanical hiccup, which can sometimes lead to longer "reset" delays. The seating layout is often criticized for being cramped compared to the newer Elizabeth Line or standard Underground trains, with many "transverse" seats that make it difficult for standing passengers to move during rush hour. Additionally, because much of the track is elevated, the DLR is more susceptible to extreme weather conditions, such as high winds or ice on the tracks, which can cause service suspensions that wouldn't affect the deep-level Tube lines. Finally, the "branching" nature of the DLR (where trains from the same platform go to different destinations like Lewisham, Beckton, or Woolwich) can be highly confusing for first-time visitors, often resulting in travelers boarding the wrong train if they aren't paying close attention to the front-of-train displays.
