The Cairns Lagoon is a popular swimming facility located along the Cairns Esplanade in the Central Business District. This 4800 square metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers an all-year-round, safe, swimming location without stingers and crocodiles.
Located right on the waterfront in the middle of the CBD, this lagoon is 4800 square metres and offers different areas for you to relax in, whether you want to swim laps or have a bit of a splash around with the kids.
Located on the foreshore of the Trinity Harbour front, the Cairns Lagoon has sandy shores and timber decking surrounding the 4800 square meter salt water swimming pool. The water that fills the state-of-the-art swimming facility is pumped in from the Trinity Inlet and cleansed through a high tech filtration system.
Great spot to see the water crashing and carving its way through the Babinda Boulders. Short walk down from the main swimming area and car park. Nice views but there's no swimming here as it's quite dangerous.
Realistically between December and April it is not a great place to visit or do a Cairns campervan hire holiday. For example, extremely hot and humid monsoon season can be very unpleasant despite warm temperatures above 30°C! The cyclone season usually lasts in Cairns from November to May!
The water is very shallow only 2 - 3 feet deep at the most. As others have mentioned it is what most would consider a wading pool at best. But worth the trip, unlike the over commercialized and larger blue lagoon. It is small enough that you will be able to watch everyone from one location.
The city itself doesn't feature a beach so if you're looking to escape to a typical beach location with sandy shores sprinkled with palm trees and swimming areas you'll need to head north to one of Cairns' Northern Beaches.
