The $99-annual-fee Amtrak credit card features a limited-time welcome offer: Earn 40,000 bonus points after you spend $1,000 in the first three billing cycles (as of March 2023).
Amtrak credit cards will no longer be issued by Bank of America (BofA). Instead, they will be issued by FNBO (First National Bank of Omaha). This isn't the first time the cards have changed issuers. A few years ago, a similar change happened when Amtrak switched from Chase to BofA.
Many of the lines don't make any money or are operated at a loss. To accommodate the money-losing routes, Amtrak uses profits from its popular lines, such as the Northeast Corridor. Since this is one of the most popular routes, Amtrak can charge higher prices and send those profits to other, less profitable lines.
Like many Amtrak® Guest Rewards® cardholders, I got a letter in the mail a few days ago saying that I would get a new card in the mail by October 23, 2022. The reason? Amtrak credit cards will no longer be issued by Bank of America (BofA). Instead, they will be issued by FNBO (First National Bank of Omaha).
Points will expire if your account has been inactive for more than 24 months (no points have been earned or redeemed during that time). In fiscal year 2022, Amtrak served 22.9 million passengers. That figure was down ten million from 2019 when 33 million people rode Amtrak, a 30% decline.
Amtrak is a federally chartered corporation, with the federal government as majority stockholder. The Amtrak Board of Directors is appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Amtrak is operated as a for-profit company, rather than a public authority.
You + Two Bags = No Extra ChargeUnlike many transportation options, traveling with Amtrak is twice as nice with our generous baggage policy. When you travel with us, you can carry-on two free pieces of luggage. Each item should not exceed 50 lbs. (23 kg) and needs to be 28 x 22 x 14 inches in size.
Carry-on and personal items must be kept with you, stored in overhead racks, under seats or designated baggage areas. Most buses have baggage storage bins under the bus floor, and the bus driver will assist you.
