The Rainbow River in Florida is a protected Outstanding Florida Waterway, and its rules are strictly enforced to preserve its crystal-clear clarity. You cannot bring any "disposables" on the river; this includes plastic water bottles, soda cans, plastic bags, or paper wrappers. If you want to bring food or drinks, they must be in reusable containers, such as a thermos, a reusable silicone bag, or a Tupperware-style container. Alcohol is strictly prohibited on the river, and law enforcement frequently patrols to check coolers. Regarding equipment, you can bring tubes (no larger than 60 inches), kayaks, or canoes. If you are tubing, you should bring a tether to stay with your group, but avoid long ropes that can tangle in the vegetation. Because the river is spring-fed and stays at a constant 72°F, many visitors also bring snorkeling gear to view the underwater grass beds and diverse fish populations, provided they adhere to the "no-touch" policy regarding the riverbed and wildlife.
