Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, the flagship multi-dimensional coaster in Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, officially replaced the Amity section of the park, which was home to the legendary JAWS ride. The JAWS attraction, which featured a boat tour plagued by a massive animatronic shark, closed permanently in January 2012 to make way for the massive expansion of the Wizarding World. The removal of JAWS was a bittersweet moment for many long-time Universal fans, as it was an opening-day "legacy" attraction. To pay homage to its predecessor, Universal designers included several "Easter eggs" in the Diagon Alley area; for example, in the window of a record shop, you can find an album by "The Quint-Trio" (a reference to Quint from the movie), and the shrunken heads in Knockturn Alley occasionally sing "Show Me the Way to Go Home." The transition from the 1970s Spielberg classic to the high-tech Gringotts ride in 2014 marked a major shift in theme park design, moving toward highly immersive, indoor "story-coaster" experiences that dominate the industry in 2026.
