What did Guardians ride replace in Epcot?

Walt Disney World has since officially announced Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, replacing the dinosaurs of Universe of Energy at Epcot.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT replaced the long-standing Ellen’s Energy Adventure, which was the primary attraction within the "Universe of Energy" pavilion. The Universe of Energy was an original opening-day pavilion from 1982, famously featuring a 45-minute slow-moving theater experience that took guests through a diorama of primeval dinosaurs and educational films about energy sources. The attraction was significantly updated in 1996 to feature Ellen DeGeneres and Bill Nye the Science Guy before finally closing in August 2017 to make way for the Guardians. While the exterior "brutalist" architecture of the pavilion was largely preserved, the interior was completely gutted to accommodate the massive, high-tech "Omnicoaster" ride system. The replacement marked a significant shift in EPCOT's design philosophy, moving away from purely educational "edutainment" and toward high-thrill attractions based on popular Marvel intellectual property, much to the excitement of modern park-goers in 2026.
