What do I need to know before going to the Cliffs of Moher?

Pack warm clothing and a rain jacket Be prepared for wild weather mood swings. One minute might be rainy, and the next one might be sunny. Even if you check the forecast for a general idea of the day, no one ever really knows what the weather around the Cliffs will be like. The best thing you can do is be prepared.

Before visiting the Cliffs of Moher in 2026, the most important thing to know is that weather changes instantly; bring a windproof, waterproof jacket even if it looks sunny. The site is open from 09:00 to 17:00, and while the cliffs themselves are free to see if you walk in from Doolin or Liscannor, the official Visitor Centre and main parking require a paid ticket (roughly €7–€12 depending on the time of day). Booking online in advance is highly recommended to secure a parking spot during peak summer hours. For safety, stay on the designated gravel paths, as the edges can be unstable and subject to sudden, high-speed gusts of wind. Expect to spend 2–3 hours exploring, but if you plan to do the full 20km coastal walk, allow at least 5 hours and ensure you have a high level of fitness.
