What does Disney cruise use for a room key?

Disney Cruise Line does not use the MagicBands you are used to using at Walt Disney World Resort. Instead, you will be given a Key to the World Card when you check in at the cruise terminal on embarkation day. This card is about the size of a standard credit card and lives up to it's name - it is your Key to the World!

In 2026, Disney Cruise Line primarily uses the DisneyBand+ (a nautical version of the MagicBand+) as a room key and all-purpose wearable device. This waterproof, rechargeable wristband allows you to "tap" your way into your stateroom, pay for specialty drinks or merchandise, and even interact with magical artwork around the ship. If you already have a MagicBand+ from Walt Disney World or Disneyland, you can often link it and use it on select Disney ships. For guests who prefer a traditional method, the "Key to the World" card is still provided; this physical plastic card serves as your room key, your boarding pass for ports of call, and your onboard charge card. The DisneyBand+ is highly recommended for its convenience, especially at the pool or at Disney’s private islands like Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, as it eliminates the need to carry a wallet or a loose card while participating in water activities. The band even features haptic vibrations and light-up effects that sync with the ship's shows and fireworks.
