I'm happy to share that, yes, you may bring your Key to the World card home with you. I have a stack of Key to the World cards from past cruises that I keep as a memento of all the magical memories that I have made onboard!
If you lose you cabin key (card— no one uses actual keys anymore); on a Disney cruise; or any other cruise line; you simply go to the customer service desk and present a corresponding ID to match their records, they will deactivate the lost card and present you a new card.
DCL cast members will issue every member of your party a KTTWC as you check in at the port. You will need it many times throughout your trip. EVERY time you enter or exit the ship, you'll be required to tap your KTTWC onto a reader; this applies to children as well as adults. The card also serves as your stateroom key.

The new pass must be from among the pass types that are available for renewal. To find out how to proceed with purchasing a new Magic Key pass for your new three-year-old, you must speak with a Cast Member on the Magic Key Holders phone line. They are available to call between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, Pacific Time.
You are welcome to use cash throughout your vacation. Please note that some kiosks and carts may have an attendant who doesn't accept cash based on their available technology and space limitations of the moveable location.
Lucky chosen Guests who hold these little red cards until reaching the end of the queue (as they enter or board the Attraction) and handing over the card to Cast Members are in fact assisting Walt Disney World Resort with estimating the Attraction's wait time; now how magical is that?!
Disney Cruise Line does not use the MagicBands you are used to using at Walt Disney World Resort. Instead, you will be given a Key to the World Card when you check in at the cruise terminal on embarkation day. This card is about the size of a standard credit card and lives up to it's name - it is your Key to the World!
