The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) owns all lands along the Bois d'Arc Lake shoreline below the 541' mean sea level (MSL) elevation as well as some areas adjacent to the shoreline. Access to NTMWD-owned property and authorization for shoreline uses and improvements requires written approval from NTMWD.

Both lakes are in Fannin County. Bois D' Arc Lake is located four miles northeast of Bonham, Texas, on Bois d' Arc Creek, a tributary of the Red River. Lake Ralph Hall is located on the North Sulphur River in Fannin County, two miles north of the City of Ladonia.

The lake's 172 miles of shoreline falls into five different classifications. The Shoreline Management Plan allows for the development of structures and activities based on the classification of the area where they will be located.

Lake Bonham, situated in the Prairies and Lakes region of north Texas, is seven miles south of the Texas/Oklahoma border and five miles slightly northeast of Bonham, Texas, in Fannin County. It covers 1,020 acres with 22 miles of shoreline with a maximum depth of 30 feet.
