What happened to Disney World water park?

In 2005 they finally announced that the park would never reopen, and it was left to deteriorate. Some say the park closed not due to unpopularity, but because of the dangers in the park. Rumors said a dangerous amoeba was in the Bay Lake water and the filtration process was not sufficient for swimming.

River Country then sat abandoned for 17 years, rotting and gradually being reclaimed by nature. The water park was fenced off with signs up reading Sorry, River Country is closed. Disney's Blizzard Beach is closed indefinitely, though we can expect it to return sometime in early 2024. We hope to see both water parks operate normally at the same time very soon! Of course, Guests can still enjoy Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, as well as Disney Springs.
