When a Disney ride "breaks down" or experiences a "technical delay," a standard set of safety and operational procedures is triggered. Most closures are caused by safety sensors being tripped—often due to a guest dropping an item on the track or attempting to stand up. If the ride stops while you are on it, the house lights will typically turn on and an announcement will play. If the delay is expected to be long, Cast Members will perform a "controlled evacuation," assisting guests out of the ride vehicles and through backstage paths. As a gesture of goodwill, Disney usually issues a "Multi-Experience" Lightning Lane pass to affected guests via the My Disney Experience app, allowing them to ride another attraction later that day. After the guests are clear, maintenance teams must perform a "full reset," which includes cycling the ride vehicles empty to ensure all sensors are clear. This process is prioritized based on "Safety, Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency," meaning the ride will only reopen once it is 100% safe and the "show" elements are functioning correctly.
