What happens when you hit 1 million miles on United?

Once you've flown a million miles with United, you'll earn permanent elite status. At a million miles, you'll get Premier Gold for life. At two million miles, you'll receive Premier Platinum status for life. At three million miles, you'll get Premier 1K for life.

Reaching the 1 million mile milestone on United Airlines is a significant achievement that grants you lifetime Premier Gold status. This status remains active regardless of how much you fly in subsequent years, ensuring you always have benefits like Star Alliance Gold recognition, lounge access on international itineraries, and two complimentary checked bags. As of 2026, a major perk of the Million Miler program is the ability to designate a companion (such as a spouse or domestic partner) to share your highest earned Premier status for the year. For example, if a 1 Million Miler earns Premier 1K status through their annual flying, their designated companion will also enjoy 1K benefits for that duration. This lifetime status acts as a permanent "safety net," meaning even if your travel frequency drops significantly in the future, you will never fall below the Gold tier, which provides a level of comfort and priority that standard frequent flyer programs usually require you to re-qualify for every twelve months.
