A check flight attendant, often referred to as a "Check Flight Attendant" (CFA) or "Line Check Evaluator," is a highly experienced crew member who has been specially trained to evaluate the performance and safety compliance of other flight attendants. Their primary role is to ensure that the cabin crew adheres to the strict Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or international equivalent regulations, as well as the specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the airline. During a "Line Check," the CFA observes a flight attendant during an actual working flight, assessing their ability to handle emergency equipment, perform safety briefings, manage passenger medical emergencies, and maintain cabin security. They also look at service standards and professional grooming. If a flight attendant is new or returning from a long leave, they must pass a check ride with a CFA to be cleared for duty. The CFA provides detailed feedback and coaching, and if a crew member fails to meet the safety standards, the CFA has the authority to pull them from the line for retraining. It is a position of high responsibility that bridges the gap between management and frontline operations to maintain the highest levels of safety and service in the sky.
