What is a Eurostar journey like?

Speed and convenience: The Eurostar is a high-speed train that can travel at speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph). It takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes to travel from London to Paris, making it one of the fastest ways to reach the French capital from London.

A journey on the Eurostar is often described as a "city-centre to city-centre" experience that combines high-speed rail efficiency with the grand atmosphere of historic European travel. The experience begins at iconic stations like London St. Pancras International or Paris Gare du Nord, where passengers go through a streamlined security and passport control process that is generally much faster than at an airport (typically 30–60 minutes). Once on board the "e320" trains, the journey is exceptionally smooth as the train reaches speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph) through the French and Belgian countryside. The 20-minute passage through the Channel Tunnel is often unremarkable for passengers, as it feels like a standard subway tunnel, but the transition from the English landscape to the European continent is seamless. In "Standard Premier" or "Business Premier" classes, passengers are served meals and drinks at their seats, while "Standard" passengers can visit the "Café Métropole" buffet car. The biggest advantage is arriving directly in the heart of the destination city, avoiding the long commutes and baggage wait times associated with major airports like Heathrow or Charles de Gaulle.

The cars board specially crafted train cars, then the train leaves, enters the tunnel and exits on the other side, where cars roll off. It is a short passage: 35 minutes only. It is not more claustrophobic than taking a metro ride. But of course, if you suffer from claustrophobia, it may be a difficult experience.

What does the Eurotunnel look like underwater? This may be a disappointing answer, but you can't actually see the sea from the Eurostar. When you go through the tunnel and look out of the window, all you can see is your reflection in the glass because it's quite dark outside.

The Eurostar does not feel fast while you are riding on it. It is a very quiet and smooth train and you'll have trouble figuring out how fast you are going without looking at a speedometer. Even though you'll be travelling at around 100mph through the tunnel and 160mph outside of the tunnel, it won't feel that fast.
