What is difference between Lumo and LNER?

They come from the same family and were built by Hitachi. Our only issue would be that the Lumo trains are only five carriages, which means they're likelier to feel a bit 'cosier' on busier services! Railsmartr says: LNER has the edge with longer trains and more seats, but the trains themselves look much the same!

Lumo and LNER are the two primary train operators on the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh, but they cater to very different travel styles. LNER (London North Eastern Railway) is the "full-service" national operator, running high-frequency services with both Standard and First Class carriages, a buffet car, and a hot meal service for premium passengers. Their "Azuma" trains are longer and offer more luggage space. Lumo, on the other hand, is a "low-cost" open-access operator designed to compete with budget airlines. Lumo trains are all-electric and feature only one class of service (Standard), with no First Class option. While Lumo's seats are often praised for being more comfortable and better for napping due to winged headrests, the trains are shorter and have significantly less luggage storage. Lumo tickets are generally much cheaper if booked in advance but offer less flexibility than LNER’s "Anytime" fares. Essentially, choose LNER if you want more space, a quiet First Class environment, or have heavy bags; choose Lumo if you are a budget-conscious solo traveler looking for the fastest, most eco-friendly link between the two capitals.
