What is difference between MagicBand and MagicBand plus?

The upgraded new version of the traditional MagicBand is now the MagicBand+. This band has all the features of the traditional MagicBand with some added extras! Now the band can light up and vibrate while it interacts at certain Park locations, rides, and shows.



The primary difference between the original MagicBand and the newer MagicBand+ lies in its interactive technology and physical features. While the original MagicBand is a "passive" device used for park entry, Lightning Lanes, and unlocking your Disney hotel room, the MagicBand+ includes rechargeable batteries, haptic vibrations, and color-changing LED lights. In 2026, MagicBand+ is the "gold standard" because it allows for immersive experiences, such as vibrating and lighting up in sync with nighttime spectaculars like Luminous or letting you play "Bounty Hunter" games in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Furthermore, MagicBand+ is currently the only version that works at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, as well as on Disney Cruise Line ships. While the original band is cheaper and never needs charging, the MagicBand+ provides a higher-value experience for those who want to "feel" the magic through their wrist, though you must remember to charge it every night using the included USB cable to keep the interactive features active for your next day at the parks.

That being said, a MagicBand can only be linked to one ticket or pass at a time. If not everyone in the group has a MagicBand, the people without a band can use their phones instead. You can, however, link more than one MagicBand to a particular pass or ticket.

If you are getting closer to the correct door, your MagicBand+ will vibrate and light up green. If you are getting further away, it'll turn red. The closer you get to your bounty, the quicker your band will vibrate. If you walk up to a door and your band turns purple, you've found your bounty.

You can use your phone. Create a Magic Mobile pass within the My Disney Experience app. As long as you're using your phone to only scan in YOURSELF (meaning not you AND the other members of your party), then it should be fine. It might be slower than using a MagicBand, but it still works.
