What is guaranteed upgrade Hertz?

Guaranteed upgrade is to the next car class only. This excludes Special Equipment such as Minivans, SUVs and Hertz Collections vehicles. Upgrades do not apply to rentals longer than 30 days.



A "guaranteed upgrade" at Hertz is a specific benefit provided to elite members of the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program, primarily those in the President’s Circle tier. When a President's Circle member books a mid-size car (Class C) or higher, they are "guaranteed" a one-class car upgrade at participating locations. This means if you book a "Midsize," you are guaranteed to receive at least a "Full-size" vehicle. In 2026, this benefit is also frequently extended to Five Star members, though for them, it is "subject to availability" rather than strictly guaranteed. It is important to note that this upgrade excludes "Special Equipment" such as minivans, large SUVs, or vehicles from the Hertz Dream Collection. Additionally, the upgrade is limited to a maximum of a "Full-size" vehicle (Class F) in many regions. For travelers who hold high-tier credit cards like the Capital One Venture X, which grants automatic President's Circle status, this guarantee ensures they never have to drive the smallest car on the lot.
