What is Lake Tahoe like in the summer?

On average, the sun shines 90% of the time over the largest alpine lake in North America. And high temps during the summer months hover between 69 and 77 degrees making for glorious paddling weather. Despite the perfect weather, Lake Tahoe water is always cold, even on the hottest days of summer.

Being the largest alpine lake in North America means one very big thing for Lake Tahoe; that it's humongous! Not only that, with it perched between snow-capped mountains and surrounded by magnificent pine forests, it's a total gem to visit.

Lake Tahoe can be very crowded during peak tourist season. The best time to visit for fewer crowds is during the spring and fall months, from April to May and September to November. During this time, the crowds are much smaller, and you can enjoy the area's natural beauty without feeling crowded.

It is a great place in Northern California full of sightseeing and outdoor activities. Lake Tahoe can be visited in 2 days if you are running out of time, or you can spend 4 days in Lake Tahoe, ideally. In short, yes, it is normally safe to swim in Lake Tahoe. Just be sure to wear boots when walking around the lake. The most common snake you might see in the lake is a garter snake. If you do happen to see a snake swimming in the lake, just let it pass by, as they are normally not venomous.
