If your bag exceeds this 40-pound limit, you will face significant "Overweight" fees. For bags weighing between 41 and 50 pounds, the fee is typically an additional $79 per bag, per way. For bags between 51 and 100 pounds, the fee jumps to $99 or more. Bags that weigh over 100 pounds are not accepted at all. Because Spirit is an "ultra-low-cost" carrier, these fees are designed to be punitive to encourage light packing and efficient fuel usage. To avoid these charges, it is highly recommended to weigh your bags at home and utilize "bundle" packages (like "Boost It" or "Bundle It") during the booking process, as paying for overweight luggage at the airport counter is the most expensive way to handle baggage and can often cost more than the original flight ticket itself.
