The best and most convenient station for visiting the ruins is Pompei Scavi-Villa dei Misteri. This station is located on the Circumvesuviana commuter rail line, which runs between Naples (Napoli Centrale/Garibaldi) and Sorrento. The beauty of this station is its proximity; the entrance to the Pompeii archaeological site (Porta Marina) is less than a 50-meter walk from the station exit, making it virtually impossible to get lost. If you are taking a high-speed train from Rome or Florence, you will likely arrive at the modern Pompei station (spelled with one 'i'), which is located in the town center. While this station is also within walking distance of the ruins (about 10–15 minutes), it is much less convenient for those specifically targeting the main tourist entrance. For the fastest and most scenic "express" experience, look for the Campania Express, a tourist-oriented train that uses the same tracks as the Circumvesuviana but features air conditioning and fewer stops, arriving at the same "Scavi" station in roughly 35 minutes from Naples.
