What is the difference between Premier Gold and Platinum United?

Premier Gold to Premier Platinum Premier Platinum members receive all of the benefits that Premier Gold members receive. Beyond that, the only notable difference is higher complimentary upgrade priority and 40 PlusPoints, which is enough for two regional upgrades or one international long-haul upgrade.

In United Airlines' 2026 MileagePlus program, the jump from Premier Gold to Premier Platinum is significant for frequent flyers. Premier Gold (requires 10,000 PQP + 30 PQF) offers mid-tier benefits like Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, Star Alliance Gold access (lounge access on international flights), and two free checked bags. Premier Platinum (requires 15,000 PQP + 45 PQF) ups the ante by providing 40 PlusPoints—enough for a one-way upgrade from Economy to Business on many routes—and three free checked bags. Most notably, Platinum members receive Economy Plus seating at the time of booking for up to eight companions, whereas Gold is limited to one companion. Platinum also sits higher in the upgrade standby hierarchy and offers discounted United Club memberships. While both tiers offer complimentary domestic upgrades, Platinum members have a statistically higher "clearing" rate due to their superior status rank in United's automated 2026 clearing system.
